Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs provides web filtering used by millions of corporate firewalls and network security appliances. A false positive in FortiGuard means entire companies and organizations cannot access your website. This makes Fortinet false positives particularly damaging for B2B businesses.
Check your URL in FortiGuard
Visit the FortiGuard Web Filter Lookup page and enter your URL. Note the current category and rating. URLs classified as "Malicious Websites," "Phishing," or "Spam URLs" are the ones that get blocked by corporate firewalls.
Create a FortiGuard account
To submit a recategorization request, you need a free FortiGuard account. Register at the Fortinet support portal. This account is also useful for future submissions and tracking.
Use a business email for your FortiGuard account — submissions from generic email addresses (Gmail, Yahoo) may receive lower priority.
Submit a Web Filter Rating Request
Navigate to the FortiGuard Web Filter Rating submission page. Enter your URL, select the correct category you believe it should be in (e.g., "Business," "Information Technology"), and provide a detailed justification.
Write a compelling justification
Explain your business, what the website does, and why the current classification is incorrect. If you recently cleaned a compromised site, describe what was fixed and what security measures are now in place.
Track your submission
FortiGuard provides a ticket number. Use this to track progress through the portal. Typical processing time is 1-3 business days, though complex cases may take longer.
Verify across FortiGate products
Once approved, the updated rating propagates to all FortiGate devices during their next database update (usually within 24 hours). Ask your affected customers to verify access is restored.
Some organizations cache FortiGuard ratings locally. Even after a fix, corporate clients may need to clear their FortiGate cache or wait for the next automatic update cycle.
